A native from Leyte, Mr. Nestorio Boco, was sent to San Jose, Batangas to earn a living. At an early age, seventeen, Kuya Nestor, begun to work as a farm worker. He spent five years capable of doing all-round tasks in a pig farm.
Later on, with the increasing skills he attained, he decided to work in a bigger farm where he earned loyalty from his co-workers and boss. In 25 years, he was a farm supervisor. Well-grounded to farm works including breeding, artificial insemination, waste management, housing, nutrition and personal management, Sir Tony, his boss, has full trust on Kuya Nestor’s way of doing things.
“Nung una, wala talaga akong alam sa baboy, sariling sikap, basa-basa lang”
, Kuya Nestor narrates. This was his early beginnings. Being a high school graduate, he is very confident when it comes to swine practices.
The confidence he has today was because of his perseverance to be a good provider to his family. It was 1995 when he was designated as a farm supervisor. Since then, he was sent to the International Training Center on Pig Husbandry for trainings. Farm owner, Mr. Tony learned about the Center in one of the pages of a magazine where it was published.
“Karamihan talaga ng mga natutunan ko ay from ITCPH”
, shares Kuya Nestor. The basics on pig raising was there from his past experiences, but the science behind pigs was known thru ITCPH.
When asked if he would have stayed for long without the trainings he attended from the Center, he proudly answered, “Kung hindi siguro ako nag ITCPH, baka hindi ako nagtagal nang ganto”
. Kuya Nestor possess the goodness of being a punctual, smart and friendly worker.
Long before attending courses in ITCPH, he already received a Presidential Award during the Ramos regime. He was one of the ten most outstanding workers of the Republic. The use of herbal medicine to avoid and cure diarrhea and vaginal discharge in swine became his sword.
Equipped with the knowledge and skills, Kuya Nestor shares to his co-workers, he becomes a role model to all. One of the best practices of the farm he manages today is record keeping and analysis. It was from ITCPH where he got the idea to start the use of record system. Technical parameters from litter index up to pigs produced per year including the distribution of sows and gilts according to parity number are very well updated and analyzed. This was one of the innovations he started to run in the farm. Another is the production of good finishers which they call standard, a crossbred of F1 and GP.
As a farm supervisor, he has also acquainted himself on forecasting the trends inside the farm. What can a boss ask for, but a trusted and well-rounded medicator who turned to be his supervisor now.
His experiences has brought him to what he is today. Today he is enjoying the fruits of his labor. His three (3) children has finished college and works in different fields.

“Parang hinahanap-hanap na rin ng katawan ko”
, Kuya Nestor adds. At this point, giving up is no longer an option.
