Para-Paraan ng Mag-asawang Caraan

Living a simple life at Barangay Bunggo, Calamba City, Ms. Delia Caraan is a mother of 4. She proudly noted they were able to support her children’s education and finished their studies with the help of their piggery business. She mentioned that being involved in agriculture and livestock was really a life changing experience, for it gave them the drive and opportunity to become financially stable.
Ms. Delia C. Caraan is an ITCPH alumnus wayback 2016. She was able to attend several trainings at the Center such as Sustainable Pig Faming – LABS (pigs) and On-Farm Production of Beneficial Microorganism and other trainings from ATI.
When the couple were asked if they were already in line into agricultural and livestock, they smiled and said : “Naku sa totoo lang po malayo nga po yun courses namin sa agriculture eh, ako po computer-related course or IT yun natapos ko, eto naman pong asawa ko is related sa manufacturing”.
It was in year 2005 when Ms. Caraan and her husband decided to resign from a manufacturing company, it was also the time they realized their interest to venture on pig production. Ms. Caraan shares their humble beginnings before they expanded their farm. She proudly shared that at first, they just started with a few heads of fatteners and native chickens. The capital they used was even borrowed from a cooperative and things were not as easy as they think. They were also not that eager to attend trainings related to animal production. During that time, they used to rent on a nearby lottery (around 3kms) from their house. Until they decided to develop and utilize their backyard area which is around 1.1 hectare.
“Nung nagtraining nga po ako sa SPF-LABS sa ITCPH, nung una ayaw pa ng asawa kong magseminar sa mga ganyan, pero later on, interested na syang mag attend ng mga trainings at sya na mismo yun nagprapractice ng mga natutunan nya dito sa farm namin.”
Many were surprised - “Ay may piggery pala kayo ditto, hindi kasi nangangamoy eh”.
This, as a result of training attended at ITCPH.
Ms. Caraan mentioned that she really wanted to improve their farm and this was highly supported by her family. In fact, one of her sons who’s currently in New Zealand shows interest for farming and has a lot of plans for their farm as he gets back. His other son also imparts ideas and technologies from what he observed in Japan.
By looking from their humble beginnings, it was an amazing journey for Caraan Agri-Dejan Farm to have reached several achievements. The certified with an Organic Agriculture (NC II) while the owner, Ms. Delia C. Caraan was awarded the “2018 Best Farmer in Calamba”.
Inspired by these achievements, they are currently expanding their farm. Ms. Caraan is very thankful for ITCPH for it served as an inspiration to her as she strived to make her farm progressive. As of now, a lot of plans awaits Agri-Caraan Dejan Farm. This May 2019, they have an on-going demo farm in partnership with East-West Company and hopefully by this year, they would be able to become an agri-tourism & learning site.
