Dr. Sonaco speaks to farmers, agricultural sustainability a must

The paradigm shift on the country’s livestock industry favors and acknowledges the all-out support and strenuous effort of its extension service providers for the remarkable development and bright future it now faces.
Agricultural Tarining Institute – International Training Center on Pig Husbandry’s Director Dr. Ruth S. Miclat-Sonaco highlighted in her speech to 2331 graduates of the ATI - Ilocos Region’s School-on-the-Air and Blended Course on Sustainable Swine Production.
With sustainability on top of the agency’s priorities, she reiterated that though the main goal is to gain profit on pig farming, the practice shall not harm nor bring the environment at stake. “Sama-sama po nating itaguyod ang likas-kaya at responsableng pagbababuyan upang matugunan ang seguridad sa pagkain hindi lamang para sa ngayon lalo’t higit sa susunod na henerasyon. Let us give our children a better environment than what we have now.”
, she stressed.
Also, she shared that collaborations among key players in the country’s hog industry has further strengthened. This paved way for the strategic hog road mapping, plotting the industry’s future. Likewise, she expressed optimism for even the private sectors conceded that the government has relatively contributed to the industry’s status quo and still seek for its significant involvement in years ahead. That she noted that ATI-ITCPH will remain steadfast in fulfilling the role bestowed upon it as the country’s leading agency on swine production.
With the authority vested upon her, ATI’s Information Services Division Chief Antonieta J. Arceo officially announced SOA graduates after four month-training over radio. She congratulated municipal coordinators too for completing the blended course held at ATI-ITCPH. Finally, she reminded them to be proud, “Kung wala po’ng magsasaka, gutom ang buong bansa.”
Present to grace the joint graduation were 6th District Board Member Alfonso C. Bince, Jr Pangasinan Research Center’s Chief Dr. Gilbert D. Rabara, Pangasinan’s Provincial Veterinarian Dra. Arceli Robiñon, and Rosales’ Municipal Agriculturist Dr. Roberto Sparto. The activity concluded at the Robert B. Estrella, Sr. Memorial Gymnasium, Rosales, Pangasinan, June 17.
Above all congratulations and greetings, Dr. Sonaco encouraged those interested to learn more on pig husbandry to come and visit ATI-ITCPH. She assured that the Institute will welcome them with open arms and big smiles.
