Go Bes! Ranie’s Got Business

No expert started expert himself. And no beginner ended still a beginner. Both have to go through these two transformations. While in progress, one has to take chances, try new things, have fun, make mistakes and learn from them.
Enthusiasts who have acquired knowledge through experiments, pachambs and just mere advocacy are no new. Fitting herself in with no new, Ms. Rannie Bonafe Enverga, a native from Quezon, decided to benchmark on pig raising. Her quest for it as a potential business started since 1998, went out for a while due to inaccessibility for training and hit back in 2008 considering her health concerns. This time, she afforded to get short-course on livestock raising. It was by accidence that she got across an advertisement about a livelihood and training Center in Quezon City. Not even satisfied yet, she took her co-participant’s suggestion to look for DA-funded trainings and she never missed.
Back in 2012, she was invited as a participant in ITCPH’s Basic Course on Pig Husbandry and some of its other free courses. She never wasted time and tried all practical exercises. She greatly believed that it was a one-time chance to find an agency she has been longing for years, so she better make most of it. ‘Till then, pig raising never left her.
“Everytime I avail of a course at ITCPH, I feel renewed like a new range of energy flows again. ITCPH is an inspiration!”
proudly uttered Rannie.
Equipped with relevant knowledge and exposure, she started her small farm in Tagkawayan with 8 weaners (from half-native sow) for fattening. In her farm, she applied the feeding program for hybrids learned from the Center. However, she was reminded to be mindful of genetics as key for profitable production. So, she tried landrace. Growth was sound but transportation and feed costs pulled-down profit. Due this, she rested for two months.
With high hopes, she continued what she already started. Her goal was to substitute naturally-grown produce with synthetic ingredients. She was deemed successful in doing so. The formulation she learned from ITCPH aided her.
Eventually, she was elected President and led twenty members of the Native Pig Raisers Association of Tagkawayan Quezon Incorporated (NPRATQI). The association was formed thru the two-year dispersal of native pigs program of the Southern Luzon State University (SLSU). Here, she capacitated members with knowledge and skills on building houses from indigenous materials, planting forages and providing quality management for the pigs. She also taught farmers and clients on better farm practices, extended livelihood programs, conducted seminars and collaborated with various institutions for manuals publications and creation of educational videos. Her being organic farmer paved way to her business with GreenBread Pizza Resto in Tagkawayan. She became the Resto’s consultant and its herbs supplier.
Despite all challenges she encountered from travelling mountainous-rough-rocky roads and upscale to acquisition of machineries and manpower, Rannie remained faithful and holding on. She was certain that anything accomplished for good will bring greatness.
Right now, she is continuously operating her farm while sticking to her diet. As a Nutritionist-Dietician and businesswoman, she always highlights that learning the hard way is the best way.
She had taken chances, had fun, committed mistakes but still went on her business. So, go ‘lang Bes!
