CoP compels shared understanding to work, targets market

Shared understanding and common practice for one finite goal served mantras of the concluded Orientation Workshop dubbed KM Boar: Establishment of Community of Practice on Swine.
In cooperation with PUM Netherlands Senior Expert Foundation, Mr. Cyrillus Lejien, one of their experts, oriented representatives from the local government, non-government organization, academe, agricultural extension and production sectors on the relative importance of voluntarily working together for a common cause.
Community of Practice (CoP) is an extension intervention formed by experts and practitioners whose interests boil at one point and voluntarily come together or interact to learn. This extension modality creates a platform for the swine industry’s key players to develop, improve and serve the country’s hog raisers at a maximum extent.
“One of the first steps towards a successful putting up of a Community of Practice is knowing what exactly the issue is, at its most specific form.”
, claims Mr. Lejien. “But of course, the active participation and willingness to address and resolve the issue are highly sought for its effective operation.”
, he added.
As part of the workshop, participants were categorized as producer, government and private groups, each working on a specific issue they believe must be attended at immediately by the CoP. After the presentation, the groups had marketing as the main issue to work on by the community.
Among 35 participants, eleven (11) commit to be members of the CoP on Swine Marketing. They are: Dr. Marigold M. Landicho (Lipa City Veterinary Office); Dr. Ellecer M. Babelonia, Jr. (UNIBAT); Dr. Dyesebel D. Andaya (ITCPH); Dr. Camilo C. Comablicer (UNIBAT); Dr. Aries P. Garcia (Tanauan City Veterinary Office); Dr. Wilfredo P. Resoso (Infranco Group of Comapnies); Dr. Jose Q. Molina (Vet Consult Phils); Dr. Nino Jesus G. Bagui (SIDCI); Mr. Cheil Lejien (PUM); Dr. Ruth S. Miclat-Sonaco (ITCPH); and Mr. Dexter R. Pagcaliwagan (ITCPH), respectively.
In the long run, aside from helping swine raisers in years ahead, this project may open possibilities of replication and opportunities for more communities of practice in various livestock and crop commodities; since KM Boar will be the one of the first established CoPs in the Republic’s history.
The workshop was held at the LIMA Park Hotel, Malvar, Batangas, November 23.
