Pagbababuyan, Politika at Pamilya: Kuya Ablit’s 3Ps Love

When you keep doing things that you love most, the things that you love, in turn, keep riches for you. What riches? Those that can’t, by any existing currencies, be bought, say, happiness, fulfilment and respect.
Mr. Pablo V. Agapay is a native from Liliw, Laguna. He has five (5) siblings and is raised from a family whose daily subsistence lies on backyard pig raising. Though subjected to tremendous spates and various unnecessary encounters, his love for pigs has never faded; hereby strengthened and remained still through years instead.
Let’s talk about his first.
“Since 1975, ako’y AB na. Alaga Baboy na”.
Right after his High School graduation in 1975, he immediately ventured on pig farming. His being exposed to his parents’ chores as pig raisers equipped him the necessary skills and knowledge relevant to survive a pig business.
But just like all other business endeavours, his does not exempt from serious and massive downfalls. It was in 2014 to 2015 when his and his brother’s farms were seethed by an epidemic technically known as mycotoxins. From hundreds of stocks, forty (40) survived and 250 stillbirths recorded leading to zero yield. To reconcile, he had to borrow an amount of P1.7M from banks, LGU and from his other siblings. Not even recovering from the devastation and loss yet, typhoon ‘Lando’
hit his farm in 2015 and destroyed almost all of his pig houses. Again, he resorted to loans.
For some raisers, continuing the business is like hammering the head with a huge rock. But for him, moving forward is the key. To date, his farm is still in the midst of recovering but applies finite strategies in doing so. “Pig lover kasi talaga ako.”
, he inquisitively added.
Though well-armed already of knowledge and practice on Effective Microorganisms (EM), he still attended few courses offered by ATI-ITCPH. The Sustainable Pig Farming (SPF) and Lactic Acid Bacteria Serum (LABS) boosted his confidence in managing the farm. Vested to earn more for the family, he even thought of an innovation by mixing one (1) cup of fermented coconut vinegar to a hundred kilos of feeds. Upon his attendance to the trainings, he discovered that what he is already up to is a form of LABS itself. Knowing it, he further strengthened his formula’s utilization for the general interest of his farm. Now, he is delighted to always note that his farm has minimized foul odor making it socially sound to his neighbourhoods. His love for pigs keeps growing. He even mastered the art of taking good care for them which he then smeared to his second love, politics.
What about his second?
Charm? “It runs in the blood.”
, he flippantly answered.
More than being a pig farmer, Kuya Amblit was deemed successful in captivating the hearts of his town people. He ran for the Vice-Mayor post in 1980’s local elections and had served as such for a term. The noble cause doesn’t end there. From 1995-2004, he was elected as the Municipal Mayor of Magdalena, Laguna where he rendered service for three consecutive terms. When he stood as the town’s father, he did give special attention to agricultural development. This is to recognize the potential of agriculture in sustaining the needs of the local people especially that he as pig raiser, himself, has seen its relative impact to the elevation of his family’s quality of life. His love and passion for agriculture combined, he increased the cost on the provision of agricultural loans to farmers from P300,000.00 to P10 M for crops and livestock purposes.
A father always provides for his family, no matter what expense he gets in doing so. Likely, Kuya Amblit did all he can for the welfare of the people and community he served. But this is a bit behind of what he is capable of, considering his greatest love, his family.
What’s in store for his third?
The quality and overall condition of the family mirrors how good the father is in providing their needs. Just like in swine management, the health and productivity of pigs are correlated to how best their handlers are in managing them. For his greatest love whom he devoted everything that he did, does and will do, he will never run out on his plate. He will surely have something to offer.
Though youngest, Kuya Amblit was able to contribute to the educational needs of his other four siblings. As fruits of his and his parents’ labor, Des, Dory, Mayet and Vic graduated as Pharmacist, Accountant, Nurse and Aeronautical Engineer, respectively. Eventually when he settled, he provided for his children’s education. His income from pig raising resulted to two graduates of BS Fishery and Veterinary Medicine programs.
Above all these things, Kuya Amblit thanks God for showering his life with plenty of blessings and love which he then shared to people and community he cherished most.
So, is he happy and satisfied? “I am happy and fulfilled. I have earned respect from my people. What else a man, a father and a lover could ever ask for?”
, he ended.
